How to Manage Add On Products and Their Display in Checkout

Written by Cristina Ramos

Add-ons allow you to offer customers additional items during checkout, such as balloons, stuffed animals, chocolates, candles, and seasonal gifts. The updated add-ons system organizes products by occasion and gives you more control, capacity, and flexibility.

This guide explains how add-ons work and how to manage them in your Lovingly Account.

Overview of Add-On Categories

Add-ons are grouped by occasion to help customers find relevant items quickly. Each occasion category supports up to 20 add-ons, giving you access to more than 600 add-ons across the full catalog. To enable add-ons in your product list, click the flower icon on the left-hand side of the screen, then click the Filter button at the top right under “Add new product.” Add the filter for “Add-on” and save it. This will display your enabled add-ons, with items shown in gray indicating they are not enabled.

If a product is not tied to a specific occasion, it will appear under Just Because, which is the default category.

Key Features

Occasion-Based Organization

  • Add-ons are sorted by event categories such as Birthday, Anniversary, Get Well, Sympathy, and more.

  • You can assign an add-on to one or multiple occasions depending on its use.

Increased Capacity

  • The old system allowed only 20 total add-ons.

  • You can now manage up to 20 add-ons per occasion.

Cleaner Add-On Management

  • Add-on setup uses a simplified form focused only on fields that matter.

  • Selecting categories is done through checkboxes for quick and clear organization.

Improved Customer Shopping Experience

  • Customers see add-ons that match the occasion of the product they selected.

  • They can switch categories at checkout if they want to browse other options.

Add a New Add-On

  1. Go to Products in your Lovingly Account.

  2. Select Add New Product.

  3. Choose or upload your add-on image and details.

  4. Select one or more Occasion Categories.

  • “Just Because” is selected automatically but can be unchecked.

  1. Save your changes.

  2. To ensure add-ons are enabled, use the filter option in your product list. Click the flower icon, then the Filter button, and add the filter for “Add-on.” Save the filter to view enabled add-ons, with gray items indicating they are not enabled.

Edit an Existing Add-On

When you open an existing add-on for editing:

  • All categories currently assigned will appear checked.

  • Uncheck a category to remove the add-on from that occasion.

  • Title and description fields have character limits:

  • Title: 38 characters

  • Description: 68 characters

  • Add-ons that exceed these limits will remain unchanged until edited.

  • If add-ons are not appearing during checkout, ensure they are assigned to the relevant categories and within the 20-item limit. Adjust assignments to prioritize important add-ons.

How Customers Experience Add-Ons in Checkout

Occasion-Aware Add-On Display

If a shopper selects a product tied to an occasion, add-ons from that same category appear first.

Example: Selecting a Birthday arrangement shows Birthday add-ons.

Switching Categories

Customers can switch to a different category during checkout, such as Christmas, Anniversary, or Get Well.

If they choose an add-on from a new category, the flow updates to that selected occasion.

Add-on Counter and Visibility

Customers see how many add-ons they have selected before moving to the next step.

This helps encourage add-on purchases while keeping the experience clean and intuitive.

Tips for Managing Add-Ons

  • Assign each add-on to all relevant categories for maximum visibility.

  • Periodically refresh seasonal and holiday add-ons.

  • Review character limits to ensure all content displays correctly.

  • Keep images consistent in lighting, style, and background for a professional presentation.

Troubleshooting Common Visibility Issues

  1. Add-Ons Not Appearing During Checkout:

    • Ensure the add-ons are assigned to the relevant checkout categories.

    • Review the category assignments to confirm they are within the 20-item limit.

    • Adjust assignments if necessary to prioritize the most important add-ons.

  2. Limited Number of Add-Ons Displayed:

    • If only 10 add-ons are visible, check the category assignments.

    • Properly assign add-ons to categories to display up to 20 items per category.

  3. Specific Add-Ons Not Showing (e.g., Teddy Bears):

    • Check if the category is overcrowded with more than 20 items.

    • Reduce the number of products assigned to the category to make room for the missing add-ons.

    • Reassign and prioritize items as needed.
